Files to words
EPUB to Text Converter
Extract readable chapter content from an EPUB ebook. The EPUB to text converter follows the book’s document structure so you can review passages and reuse your own accessible content.
Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file.
- Choose your source and export format.
- See the Credit estimate and processing progress.
- Read the result and download your file.

EPUB chapters have a reading order
An EPUB packages several HTML documents, a manifest and a reading-order spine. Extracted text should follow that order rather than alphabetical filenames. Review the table of contents, front matter and chapter boundaries, especially in books with appendices or unconventional navigation. Decorative layout and exact ebook pagination do not carry over to TXT.
Notes, illustrations and unusual books
Footnotes, endnotes, poetry and multi-column publications can need manual checking. TXT keeps readable words and simple structural separation, while Word offers editable headings, paragraphs and supported tables. Result-owned supported illustrations can be embedded in DOCX; inaccessible resources remain labelled. Keep a Markdown bundle when you need its separate image files for further work.
Upload an accessible EPUB source
A DRM-protected or encrypted ebook cannot be treated as an ordinary readable EPUB archive. Use a non-protected file you can access; this tool does not remove ebook protection. A damaged package, missing chapter file or unsupported encoding can prevent conversion. Review a small representative section before processing a lengthy book and check the estimate before confirming.

Field guide
Chapter 1: Getting started
Choose a clear research question.
Chapter 2: Observations
Record the date and source for each note.File limits and account allowance
Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file. Sizes use binary units: 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes. Sign in for the Free allowance; a guest preview is not the same as a Free account.
Free includes 25 Credits per month. Starter is $3.99 per month with 200 Credits, and Pro is $7.99 per month with 500 Credits. Paid plans do not remove file validation or the need for a sufficient balance. See pricing and Credits for the current catalog.
Estimate, processing and downloads
The estimate follows extracted source units. Digital PDF pages cost 0.1 Credit each and OCR pages cost 0.5 Credit each. Text, HTML and EPUB use 0.05 Credit per 1,000 extracted words, with minimums of 0.11 Credit for text/HTML and 0.07 Credit for EPUB. Image OCR is billed per processed page. Your exact estimate appears before confirmation.
Upload time depends on the connection and source size. Processing also depends on duration, page complexity and queue load; the estimate and task progress are indicative, not a fixed completion promise. Large uploads can resume missing parts. Failed processing releases reserved Credits; a successful task settles once.
Reader displays the same canonical result for TXT, Word and Markdown. Switching exports does not start another conversion. DOCX supports editable headings, lists, tables, links and supported result-owned images. TXT keeps readable text and table cells. The Word exporter accepts up to 1 MB of canonical Markdown, 2,000 content blocks, 512 table cells and 32 images, with 2 MB per image and 8 MB of image data; use the Markdown image bundle for larger documents.
Retention and review
Free results are retained for 1 hour, Starter for 7 days and Pro for 30 days after completion. The task shows the exact expiry. Download before it expires, or delete it early from History. Temporary sources are removed after processing or expiry; a guest-preview original can remain available until its preview session expires. Review uncertain words, table order and important figures before reuse. Read the privacy policy for processing details.
EPUB to Text questions
Can it remove DRM from an ebook?
No. Upload a readable, non-protected EPUB. The converter does not remove encryption or digital rights management.
Will the TXT keep ebook page numbers?
EPUB pagination is often reflowable. TXT keeps readable chapter content rather than the exact display pages of an ebook reader.
Does downloading another format spend more Credits?
No. Markdown, Word and TXT downloads reuse the saved conversion, with one Credit settlement. A new source conversion is a separate job.
How long can I download the result?
Results are retained for 1 hour on Free, 7 days on Starter and 30 days on Pro. The job shows its exact expiry. You can delete stored files earlier from History.
What happens if conversion fails?
An unsuccessful conversion releases frozen Credits. If a release needs repair, the task shows its recovery state. Retrying a download does not create a second conversion.
