Files to words
MP3 to Text Converter
Upload an MP3 recording to turn compressed speech into a readable transcript. This MP3 to text converter is for words in the audio, with timing to help you check the result.
Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file. Maximum 60 minutes per file under the currently active limits.
- Choose your source and export format.
- See the Credit estimate and processing progress.
- Read the result and download your file.

MP3 compression and speech clarity
MP3 uses lossy compression. Very low bitrates can blur consonants and quiet words, especially when there is music behind a voice. Upload the best original MP3 you have; converting a small MP3 to a larger WAV does not recover lost detail. A clear mono recording can work better than a noisy stereo one.
Podcasts, voice notes and interviews
For a podcast, review guest names, episode titles and quoted numbers. For a voice note, check speech near the start and end where the microphone may cut in or out. Long pauses still belong to the measured duration. Billing is based on verified time, so a small compressed file can require more Credits than a larger but shorter recording.
A reusable transcript instead of audio metadata
ID3 tags, album artwork and an MP3 filename are not the transcript. The converter listens to the decoded speech and produces time-coded text. TXT keeps that text portable, while DOCX gives editors a document they can annotate. The result is not automatically cleaned into a publishable interview or guaranteed to identify individual speakers.

[00:06–00:12] Our first question is about keyboard navigation.File limits and account allowance
Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file. Maximum 60 minutes per file under the currently active limits. Sizes use binary units: 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes. Sign in for the Free allowance; a guest preview is not the same as a Free account.
Free includes 25 Credits per month. Starter is $3.99 per month with 200 Credits, and Pro is $7.99 per month with 500 Credits. Paid plans do not remove file validation or the need for a sufficient balance. See pricing and Credits for the current catalog.
Estimate, processing and downloads
Media costs 0.5 Credit per measured minute, with a 0.3 Credit minimum. A 10-minute recording needs 5 Credits; 60 minutes needs 30 Credits. Free includes 25 monthly Credits, about 50 minutes before other use. A maximum-size allowance does not grant extra Credits.
Upload time depends on the connection and source size. Processing also depends on duration, page complexity and queue load; the estimate and task progress are indicative, not a fixed completion promise. Large uploads can resume missing parts. Failed processing releases reserved Credits; a successful task settles once.
Reader displays the same canonical result for TXT, Word and Markdown. Switching exports does not start another conversion. DOCX supports editable headings, lists, tables, links and supported result-owned images. TXT keeps readable text and table cells. The Word exporter accepts up to 1 MB of canonical Markdown, 2,000 content blocks, 512 table cells and 32 images, with 2 MB per image and 8 MB of image data; use the Markdown image bundle for larger documents.
Retention and review
Free results are retained for 1 hour, Starter for 7 days and Pro for 30 days after completion. The task shows the exact expiry. Download before it expires, or delete it early from History. Temporary sources are removed after processing or expiry; a guest-preview original can remain available until its preview session expires. Review uncertain words, table order and important figures before reuse. Read the privacy policy for processing details.
MP3 to Text questions
Can changing the bitrate improve the transcript?
Use a higher-quality original recording when available. Re-encoding an already compressed MP3 at a higher bitrate does not restore lost speech.
Why can a small MP3 cost more than a larger one?
Credits follow measured audio duration, not compressed file size. A 40-minute MP3 needs 20 Credits at the current media rate.
Does downloading another format spend more Credits?
No. Markdown, Word and TXT downloads reuse the saved conversion, with one Credit settlement. A new source conversion is a separate job.
How long can I download the result?
Results are retained for 1 hour on Free, 7 days on Starter and 30 days on Pro. The job shows its exact expiry. You can delete stored files earlier from History.
What happens if conversion fails?
An unsuccessful conversion releases frozen Credits. If a release needs repair, the task shows its recovery state. Retrying a download does not create a second conversion.
