Files to words
HTML to Text Converter
Upload a saved HTML document to extract its readable content. The HTML to text converter removes markup syntax while keeping useful words, links and document structure.
Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file.
- Choose your source and export format.
- See the Credit estimate and processing progress.
- Read the result and download your file.
Your result is ready
Use a saved document, not executable code
This page accepts .html, .htm and .xhtml files. It extracts the document content without running page scripts. A file containing only a JavaScript application shell may not contain the text you saw in the browser. Save a version with the actual article body, or use the existing public URL import tool when that is a better match.
Decide what should survive markup removal
Headings become readable sections, links can retain their destination, and table rows retain useful cell content. HTML navigation, repeated footers and unusual layout fragments may still need editing. TXT is appropriate for plain content; Markdown preserves lightweight structure and DOCX provides editable Word headings and tables. None of these is a rendered screenshot of the page.
Encoding and embedded resources
A correctly declared character encoding helps preserve accented letters and Chinese text. Remote images and stylesheets are not silently fetched by Word export. Result-owned supported images can be embedded; unavailable images remain labelled references. Review a saved page with complex scripts, forms or a paywall before treating its file as a complete copy of the article.

Version 2
The export menu now includes plain text.
Read the documentation (https://example.com/docs)File limits and account allowance
Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file. Sizes use binary units: 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes. Sign in for the Free allowance; a guest preview is not the same as a Free account.
Free includes 25 Credits per month. Starter is $3.99 per month with 200 Credits, and Pro is $7.99 per month with 500 Credits. Paid plans do not remove file validation or the need for a sufficient balance. See pricing and Credits for the current catalog.
Estimate, processing and downloads
The estimate follows extracted source units. Digital PDF pages cost 0.1 Credit each and OCR pages cost 0.5 Credit each. Text, HTML and EPUB use 0.05 Credit per 1,000 extracted words, with minimums of 0.11 Credit for text/HTML and 0.07 Credit for EPUB. Image OCR is billed per processed page. Your exact estimate appears before confirmation.
Upload time depends on the connection and source size. Processing also depends on duration, page complexity and queue load; the estimate and task progress are indicative, not a fixed completion promise. Large uploads can resume missing parts. Failed processing releases reserved Credits; a successful task settles once.
Reader displays the same canonical result for TXT, Word and Markdown. Switching exports does not start another conversion. DOCX supports editable headings, lists, tables, links and supported result-owned images. TXT keeps readable text and table cells. The Word exporter accepts up to 1 MB of canonical Markdown, 2,000 content blocks, 512 table cells and 32 images, with 2 MB per image and 8 MB of image data; use the Markdown image bundle for larger documents.
Retention and review
Free results are retained for 1 hour, Starter for 7 days and Pro for 30 days after completion. The task shows the exact expiry. Download before it expires, or delete it early from History. Temporary sources are removed after processing or expiry; a guest-preview original can remain available until its preview session expires. Review uncertain words, table order and important figures before reuse. Read the privacy policy for processing details.
HTML to Text questions
Does this tool execute scripts in my HTML?
No. Text extraction does not run the uploaded document’s JavaScript. Content that exists only after scripts execute may be absent from the saved file.
Can I paste a URL instead?
The existing public URL import tool handles supported public HTTPS pages. This page is focused on a saved HTML file.
Does downloading another format spend more Credits?
No. Markdown, Word and TXT downloads reuse the saved conversion, with one Credit settlement. A new source conversion is a separate job.
How long can I download the result?
Results are retained for 1 hour on Free, 7 days on Starter and 30 days on Pro. The job shows its exact expiry. You can delete stored files earlier from History.
What happens if conversion fails?
An unsuccessful conversion releases frozen Credits. If a release needs repair, the task shows its recovery state. Retrying a download does not create a second conversion.
