Files to words

Image to Text Converter

Extract text from a screenshot, photographed page or scanned image. The image to text converter uses OCR, then lets you inspect the result before reusing it.

Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file.

  1. Choose your source and export format.
  2. See the Credit estimate and processing progress.
  3. Read the result and download your file.

Choose one supported file to get started.

Give OCR a readable image

Upload PNG, JPEG, WebP, TIFF or BMP. Keep text sharp and large enough to distinguish individual letters. Crop unrelated background, avoid glare, and straighten a photographed page when possible. Upscaling a heavily blurred screenshot cannot recover characters that were never recorded. Some image encodings or damaged files can still fail decoding.

Review numbers and arranged content

A receipt, label or form may place words in several columns. Check which value belongs to which field, particularly decimal points, dates and account numbers. Tables can become structured content when the source supports it; TXT represents their cells in a readable order. Handwriting and stylized lettering can be much less reliable than printed text.

Reuse the extracted words

TXT is convenient for pasting into a note, spreadsheet or search box. DOCX lets you edit recognized content as a document; it does not promise to reconstruct the source photograph. Markdown and the original image reference help inspect extraction quality. OCR output should be reviewed before it is used for payments, records or quotations.

File limits and account allowance

Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file. Sizes use binary units: 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes. Sign in for the Free allowance; a guest preview is not the same as a Free account.

Free includes 25 Credits per month. Starter is $3.99 per month with 200 Credits, and Pro is $7.99 per month with 500 Credits. Paid plans do not remove file validation or the need for a sufficient balance. See pricing and Credits for the current catalog.

Estimate, processing and downloads

The estimate follows extracted source units. Digital PDF pages cost 0.1 Credit each and OCR pages cost 0.5 Credit each. Text, HTML and EPUB use 0.05 Credit per 1,000 extracted words, with minimums of 0.11 Credit for text/HTML and 0.07 Credit for EPUB. Image OCR is billed per processed page. Your exact estimate appears before confirmation.

Upload time depends on the connection and source size. Processing also depends on duration, page complexity and queue load; the estimate and task progress are indicative, not a fixed completion promise. Large uploads can resume missing parts. Failed processing releases reserved Credits; a successful task settles once.

Reader displays the same canonical result for TXT, Word and Markdown. Switching exports does not start another conversion. DOCX supports editable headings, lists, tables, links and supported result-owned images. TXT keeps readable text and table cells. The Word exporter accepts up to 1 MB of canonical Markdown, 2,000 content blocks, 512 table cells and 32 images, with 2 MB per image and 8 MB of image data; use the Markdown image bundle for larger documents.

Retention and review

Free results are retained for 1 hour, Starter for 7 days and Pro for 30 days after completion. The task shows the exact expiry. Download before it expires, or delete it early from History. Temporary sources are removed after processing or expiry; a guest-preview original can remain available until its preview session expires. Review uncertain words, table order and important figures before reuse. Read the privacy policy for processing details.

Image to Text questions

Can it read handwriting?

Handwriting and decorative lettering may be recognized unevenly. Use clear printed text when possible and verify every important field.

Will I get exactly the same layout as the image?

No. The goal is editable, readable text. TXT does not preserve the original image geometry, and DOCX is not a photographic replica.

Does downloading another format spend more Credits?

No. Markdown, Word and TXT downloads reuse the saved conversion, with one Credit settlement. A new source conversion is a separate job.

How long can I download the result?

Results are retained for 1 hour on Free, 7 days on Starter and 30 days on Pro. The job shows its exact expiry. You can delete stored files earlier from History.

What happens if conversion fails?

An unsuccessful conversion releases frozen Credits. If a release needs repair, the task shows its recovery state. Retrying a download does not create a second conversion.
