Files to words

Markdown to Text Converter

Strip Markdown formatting while keeping readable content. The Markdown to text converter is useful for emails, notes, search indexes and systems that accept plain TXT files.

Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file.

Remove syntax without losing the wording

Headings keep their words without hash marks. Emphasis markers disappear while the emphasized text remains. Lists keep readable bullets or numbers, and linked text can keep its destination in parentheses. Paragraph breaks remain so a long document does not collapse into one line. The export is UTF-8 text, including Chinese and accented characters.

Tables and code stay understandable

Markdown table pipes and separator rows are replaced with readable rows and tab-separated cells. Fenced code keeps the code content without the surrounding backticks. Literal asterisks inside code remain literal characters instead of being mistaken for emphasis. A plain text document cannot retain bold styling, interactive links, embedded pictures or visual table borders.

Prepare text for another workflow

Use TXT when a destination expects content rather than markup. Review diagrams, custom HTML and mathematical notation before pasting into another system, because those formats may require a separate representation. Download Word when editable document structure matters, or keep Markdown when the next tool understands its syntax. Switching between saved export formats does not require another conversion.

File limits and account allowance

Free: 25 MB per file. Starter and Pro: 50 MB per file. Sizes use binary units: 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes. Sign in for the Free allowance; a guest preview is not the same as a Free account.

Free includes 25 Credits per month. Starter is $3.99 per month with 200 Credits, and Pro is $7.99 per month with 500 Credits. Paid plans do not remove file validation or the need for a sufficient balance. See pricing and Credits for the current catalog.

Estimate, processing and downloads

The estimate follows extracted source units. Digital PDF pages cost 0.1 Credit each and OCR pages cost 0.5 Credit each. Text, HTML and EPUB use 0.05 Credit per 1,000 extracted words, with minimums of 0.11 Credit for text/HTML and 0.07 Credit for EPUB. Image OCR is billed per processed page. Your exact estimate appears before confirmation.

Upload time depends on the connection and source size. Processing also depends on duration, page complexity and queue load; the estimate and task progress are indicative, not a fixed completion promise. Large uploads can resume missing parts. Failed processing releases reserved Credits; a successful task settles once.

Reader displays the same canonical result for TXT, Word and Markdown. Switching exports does not start another conversion. DOCX supports editable headings, lists, tables, links and supported result-owned images. TXT keeps readable text and table cells. The Word exporter accepts up to 1 MB of canonical Markdown, 2,000 content blocks, 512 table cells and 32 images, with 2 MB per image and 8 MB of image data; use the Markdown image bundle for larger documents.

Retention and review

Free results are retained for 1 hour, Starter for 7 days and Pro for 30 days after completion. The task shows the exact expiry. Download before it expires, or delete it early from History. Temporary sources are removed after processing or expiry; a guest-preview original can remain available until its preview session expires. Review uncertain words, table order and important figures before reuse. Read the privacy policy for processing details.

Markdown to Text questions

Will the TXT contain Markdown markers?

Formatting markers for headings, emphasis, links and tables are removed. Literal syntax inside code is kept as code content.

Can plain text contain the original pictures?

No. TXT is text only. Image descriptions remain readable labels; use Word or a Markdown image bundle when pictures are required.

Does downloading another format spend more Credits?

No. Markdown, Word and TXT downloads reuse the saved conversion, with one Credit settlement. A new source conversion is a separate job.

How long can I download the result?

Results are retained for 1 hour on Free, 7 days on Starter and 30 days on Pro. The job shows its exact expiry. You can delete stored files earlier from History.

What happens if conversion fails?

An unsuccessful conversion releases frozen Credits. If a release needs repair, the task shows its recovery state. Retrying a download does not create a second conversion.
